Designer Carrie Beiker
A love of the garden was something I always had because I helped plant things with my mom and I'd ask what this or that was. I love my own yard and home more than almost anything or one in the world.
I never knew being yardie could lead to designing with flowers. For about ten years I worked as a graphic artist. I did greeting cards for a few and then I was a packaging designer for a while. I've had a few side jobs over the years like bead shops, home decor stores and garden centers. There was so much good knowledge to absorb at all these different kinds of jobs. Clearly floral design was somehow related to all of these other interests. So I started out like most florists do. I got a job as a floral clerk. My natural compulsions to water plants and clean stuff and be chatty made that job pretty pleasant. Eventually you get your turn to 'play' with the flowers. I really don't think I'll ever get bored of playing with the flowers.
